Yellow and gray moodboard featuring yellow ginkgo leaves art from napa

Cozy Up that Decor Fall Mood Board

Fall is such a cozy time with fires, falling leaves, cool nights and color!

Who wants to just cuddle up right now and read a good book.   Step away from the day-to-day cares.   Immerse yourself into your own little cocoon and let your brain and stress melt away into calmness?    I raised both my hands and my feet on that one!!!    This mood board would be an awesome sunroom, room off of the kitchen, den, nook, you name it - I'm ready to curl up and read a good book!!

I probably should have thrown a super comfy blanket on here too - because those are a requirement, regardless of the temperature outside (or inside)!    Just imagine a fireplace in this room, or open windows letting in some bright sunlight.  The possibilities are endless.

Hopefully I've stirred your imagination enough to get you thinking about what style, mood board and art might work for YOU in your space!

Napa Sidewalk in the Fall

This piece is one of my oldies but goodies.. It was taken with my older camera - which shows me that it's all in the shot - not always the technology.    I love the uniqueness of this piece because it's printed on dibond brushed metal.  So any part that is white is removed to see the brush strokes of the brushed metal.   Such a statement piece!!

When you invest in ART, you want to showcase that art - and make sure it’s appreciated by others as much as you appreciate it!   As a fine art photographer, I have seen clients struggle with where to place pieces of art.  Clients love the piece of art, but they just aren’t sure how to incorporate it with their furniture, or how it could fit in a room or what decor could coordinate.  So I’ve created a possible grouping of furniture items to pair along with some of my art.   Allowing the visualization of art and furniture together to make a statement in your home or office.

If you’ve read my other blogs - you know the drill … here’s my steps and the links to where I found the items that I felt paired well with the ART.

5 Steps to a New Room with ART!

Select your focal point

Decide which piece(s) of art will be the focal point or inspiration point for the room/building.

Napa Sidewalk in Fall - Featured art.
This piece is available in a 40x30 limited edition.

Custom sizes are available, so don’t let that stop your creativity!

This art is available in Dibond Brushed Metal.   The 40x30 print is a limited edition of 50.

The Dibond brushed metal (aluminum) prints that add amazing depth to your fine art.  The print takes on a different texture and for areas that are white - reveals the aluminum surface.    The photo is directly printed onto the brushed metal surface with the UV printing technology.  The art will take on almost a 3D effect.

A little bit about this art: This art, capturing the essence of Napa and Fall, was taken in Calistoga during a leisurely stroll back to our car.   There was an ever so soft breeze, as the Ginkgo leaves floated to the ground.    The pattern they created on the sidewalk was beautiful and I knew it needed captured.   The beauty of the pattern is enhanced by the placement on the Dibond brushed metal.

Build a theme

The theme …. Cozy!!

Selecting your theme is a critical component of the process.   Bright colors = vibrant and energy.   Softer pallets = calm, relax, cozy, warm, inviting.  The piece of ART selected brings in the softer pallets.   Grays, yellows, bit of green and lots of warm and cozy!!   It makes you want to sit back, relax, unwind from the chaos ... and read a good book!

Create a Mood board

Visualize the items together.   I do this by creating a mood board.   Whether I pick these exact items or not - this gives me a starting place for options for the room, for the art, and my style.

Tweak it until you’re happy with it.

Not everyone’s style is the same - so incorporate YOU into it.   That will ensure that you love it!   You don't have to be an interior designer to know what you like.  They are awesome at additional levels of inspiration, guiding you thru the sometimes overwhelming process and giving direction.   However, no one knows your style better than... YOU!

Start shopping!

I'm not gonna lie - this is my favorite part!!!   I literally squeal like a baby piglet when a new box of ART arrives!    It usually takes between 2-4 weeks for it to arrive - so the suspense has definitely been built up to be squeal-worthy!

You may not find exactly everything on your mood board when you start shopping.   The important thing is to find things YOU love and that will last.   Some things you don't need to go cheap on.   I remember the first couch that we bought as a married couple.   I gulped as I signed the check.  Next to my car, it was the most expensive thing I had ever purchased.   But that crazy couch lasted 20 years until we finally gave it to someone else to enjoy.

Napa Sidewalk in Fall fine art is very calming piece of art.   You look at the leaves and almost want to brush them away.   This piece definitely draws me in - and when paired with other grays and yellows .... the room takes on a cozy feel.

This piece is one of my accident pieces.   I call it that because it was quite by accident that I took it... and loved it!   I knew that I liked the leaves and their pattern on the ground.  However, the day was chilly and we were hurrying to get to the car.   My patient husband humored me as I stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and took a few pictures.    I have now sold several of this limited edition print - and couldn't be more thrilled to display it on this mood board.   You just never know when an accident may turn out to be a luck.

Give me the Details...

I selected a medium gray couch from Living Spaces.   I really like this option because it has so many color and fabric choices for you to pick from.   Plus, you can select the fabric for your coordinating pillows. This allows you to also add some of your personal preferences - rather than just a generic pillow that comes with the couch.    I went with a medium gray because I didn't want the couch to be too dark, but I also didn't want to have to worry about sitting on it and spilling something!   Why add unnecessary worry when we are there to relax, cozy up by a fire and read a good book?

Summit gray (Sherwin Williams #7669) for the walls, brings in such a nice warm touch.   And we can't forget a fireplace to coordinate with that color.   It could be an accent wall as well - but for me ..... fireplace for the win!   Depending on your preference (and budget), you can always make this real stone!!

There's still room for more seating - a lovely chair and ottoman in a golden yellow.   The ottoman is a must-have ... as you need to kick your feet up and read here!!   A small gray and glass coffee or side table can hold your tea/coffee while you melt away and enjoy the day.   And a rug!   Can't forget the rug - it adds just the right amount of curiosity, color and interest to the room.

For a bit of green - which all rooms with any natural light need greenery - I thought it would be fun to add a Ginkgo bonsai tree.   This is the green version of the fall leaves in the ART.

As I felt this could be an amazing room filled with books to read, I selected a book by Amy Matayo to add to the fun of this room.   Amy is an award winning contemporary romance author with books that draw you in and allow you to break away from the daily world for a few hours.

Dillon Hayes is twenty-eight and single, an unfortunate status her overbearing family is determined to fix. So when she’s stuck on a cruise ship for a seven-day reunion with the lot of them, she's desperate for any escape she can find, even if it means partnering with a sketchy stranger for an off-the-beaten-path snorkeling excursion. After her mother's last matchmaking attempt, Dillon is more than willing to trade all her good sense for a few hours of solace.

You can read more and purchase Amy's books here.

Lastly ... if the ART or calming colors didn't draw you into the room ... this light definitely will.  In the likeness of a piece of Chihuly - this blown glass chandelier definitely will.   If you want a custom designed chandelier, I found an artist in Clinton, Arkansas who also makes these @redfernglass. To complete the room, I added a beautiful little ginkgo potted plant.   (Because, let's be honest - what cozy room doesn't need some more nature!)

Voila!   This room is complete and ready to cozy on in!     Now..... where's that book!

Lisa Blount Photography Fine Art Artist

A little bit about me:  I love taking pictures!   It started at a very young age and has stuck with me my whole life.  I have used my pictures to capture memories and moments that later allow you to reflect.  I never considered moving forward and creating art until several challenging events happened which allowed me to rethink my priorities.  I then had the opportunity to collaborate with a designer and had SO MUCH FUN!!   Having a 30 year career in Corporate America, has allowed me the opportunity to now do what I love - take pictures and add some beautiful art to your world!
